Year 3 2022 - 2023

Welcome to Year 3

Class Teacher: Mr Paul

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Jones

I’d like to share with you some of the expectations for the following year:

Reading

In reading, the children have been assessed and are reading a suitable reading book for their level of need. Can I ask that the children bring in their reading records and books in to school every day. In class, a grown-up will then check the children’s records and use a stamp to acknowledge this. To promote reading in class and as an incentive, if the children have their reading records signed at least 3 times during the week, they will receive a raffle ticket for a draw at the end of the week. The lucky winner will receive a small treat. It is really important that we are reading every day and enjoying what we read. Please talk to your children about what they are reading and encourage them to explore main characters, setting, story lines and so on.

Phonics

All children in the class will have a login for ‘Floppy’s Phonics’ at home. Here, you can read the e-versions of the Floppy’s texts that we read in school. This will help the children to revise their Level 4 and 5 sounds from Key Stage 1. I would recommend that this should be done for 10 minutes each day.

PE

Our PE day will be Tuesday. Please can I ask that the children bring in their PE kits in a bag and we shall change into our kits in the afternoon. This half term, we will be enjoying some football and handball.

Homework

Homework will be set each Friday and can I ask that it is returned no later than the following Wednesday- this will give all children ample time to complete their homework and fit it in around life at home.

Thank you to everybody who has already engaged with our class dojo page. Here, we shall celebrate daily achievements, such as learner of the day and citizen of the day. It is also a great way to communicate messages between home and school.

If you have any questions throughout the year, please do not hesitate to contact me.
